ISLAMIA INTER COLLEGE: ABODE OF KNOWLEDGE, WISDOM AND ENLIGHTENMENT
District Muzaffar Nagar is a jewel in the Doab’s crown. Saiyid Mansoor Ali Khan founded a city at and around the Pargana of Sarwat in 1633 and named it as well as the region around it as Muzaffar Nagar in honour of his father saiyid Muzaffar Ali Khan. In 1826, Muzaffar Nagar was upgraded to be a district from the firmament of this city a Pole Star named Islamia Inter College shoot up and joined the KEHKASHAN (galaxy). In 1920, the Congress under the leadership of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi announced a 4-stage non-cooperation movement. It included boycott of titles, civil services, police and army and non-payment of taxes. Therefore, students left government controlled educational institutions, lawyers gave up practice and government servants resigned their jobs. During the non-cooperation movement many a school and colleges were established by the Indians. During this period associations established many educational institutions in different parts of India. Inspired by this noble cause, some visionary and elite Muslims of Muzaffar Nagar formed the ANJUMAN ISLAMIA and founded a Madarsa for primary level education in 1926 at Panchdara Abupura. In 1927, it was upgraded as an “English Middle School” and shifted near the present cold storage adjacent to the Meenakshi Cinema. The ANJUMAN ISLAMIA maintained this English Middle School till 1930, then the ANJUMAN ISLAMIA entrusted it to a Board of Trustees consisting of prominent Muslim gentry, Nawab of Karnal Liaqat Ali Khan as its President and Raees Sayeed Murtaza as its secretary. Nawabzada Liaqat Ali Khan, an educated prominant Muslim League leader who later become the Prime minister of Pakistan donated a parcel of land of several bighas between the G.T. Road and the Arya Samaj Temple, Takiya and the Arya Samaj Road. He created a waqf to establish a college thereon. On Friday, the 7th October, 1932 the then Commissioner P. W Marsh, I. C. S. (Who was the D. M. Of Muzaffar Nagar) laid the foundation stone of this fountain of knowledge by the name ‘ANGLO ISLAMIA HIGH SCHOOL’. Happily, the above-mentioned ‘English Middle School’ got the recognition of high school in 1932. This ANGLO ISLAMIA HIGH SCHOOL was elevated to Intermediate level in 1952. The left wing of the School was built out of the property donated by Chaudhary Abdur Rehman, A wall stone testifying this fact still adorns the wall of the left wing of the Islamia Inter College. As such Nawab Liaqat Ali Khan and Raees Saeed Murtaza were the President and the manager of the managing Committee of the School while the ANJUMAN ISLAMIA was its parent body. Since its inception, this abode of knowledge, wisdom and enlightenment has been serving the masses as a harbinger of education, thus fulfilling the dictat of the Prophet (SAW) : “From cradle to grave, gain knowledge”. The alumni of Islamia Inter College are illuminating the galaxy (Kehkashan) of the earth while Islamia Inter College as the lighthouse and the Pole Star continues to guide the travellers of knowledge gropping in dark of ignorance & ambivalence. May Allah, the exalted, bestow divine rewards on the founders of the College. Amen !
